Obligate Parasite is a sonic condition composed through electronics, voice, and Georgian polyphony. OP examines vocal erasure, mimicry, noise, and resistance through karaoke, choral singing and distortion. The composition organizes itself through vocal lineage and nested dependency structures, where voices operate within feedback loops of transmission, care, disruption, and return. I draw influence from the Rafflesia—a parasitic flower endemic to the Philippines and Southeast Asia, and consider how voices are unrooted yet shaped, sustained, extracted, and absorbed within dominant sonic systems. My research began summer 2022 with OP as a development from 2024.
