Grace Villamil is an interdisciplinary artist based in NY & NJ. Through sound, video, movement & material, her emotive works are research-driven, developing systems for ancestral excavation & interconnection among beings. Current projects include Mumulak; Interaural Space, a community project/installation centered on the refugee crisis & migration @ Princeton Arts Council, NJ. ; & ⎤⎤⎤, an experimental noise duo w/ @chantalmichelle (debut release via SUPERPANG Nov 2023). Past collaborations include projects with Black Mountain College Museum + IONE @ Pauline Oliveros’s Deep Listening Plaza; visuals for Tyondai Braxton; performance with Raven Chacon; a publication with Samia Halaby & +. Her live-video manipulations as accompaniment to electronic & live instruments were performed at Southbank, London; Elbphilharmonie Kleiner Saal, Hamburg; The Broad/Redcat, Los Angeles; Issue Project Room, NYC & in Boston w/ ACT, a MIT Media Lab. Grace is a 2024 Rema Hort Mann Community Arts Grant recipient, and is a Masters of Fine Arts candidate in Music/Sound at Bard College, Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts.

Typhoon Yolanda Philippines Nov 2013
Myself as Start Here and Tyondai Braxton put together a benefit concert for the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines. START HERE is Clara Balaguer (Manila/Office of Culture and Design), Kristian Henson (NYC/Manila), and myself. We create events to raise funds, form dialogue and build awareness for the long-term problematics for disaster response in the Philippines concentrating most recently on the earthquake in Bohol, Cebu (October 2013), and SuperTyphoon Haiyan (Yolanda).
New series with Prefuse73 & Yellow Year Records, album artwork+videos for his first series "Speak Soon" featuring collabs with Teebs, Kendrick Lamar, Nosaj thing & etc. My Fruition project of women is the artwork for the 12 albums to come out over the course of the year. Woman on the cover, embodiment of earth on the back. Beautiful vinyl, limited pressing. Watch the teaser below directed+filmed by us.
Fruition is an ongoing documentation capturing young women as physical body and mind are developing. These women are photographed between the years of 20-40 before their first offspring . A period of emotional growth rarely documented, paired with earth.
Pasalubong my photobook of the Philippines is an intimate journey through the lens of my Yashica and long bus rides around the country, includes drawings from my journal during those hours. Cover is a collage I made, a ripping open of the English-Pilipino dictionary. The special edition comes wrapped in a banana leaf collaboration print by myself & Samia Halaby, renowned Palestinian artist.
