Grace Reads.

My favorite books free and downloadable. I was on a long drive looking for the audio version of a book; found that it didn’t exist or was with a voice that didn’t fit the context. These are recorded on my iphone from wherever I am, so there’s faint environmental noise present - rain, birds, the train by my studio or when lucky, silence. The hope is to grow it into a sweet collection; something useful to you & everyone. If you have any suggestions for other books pls DM. Thanks for listening!

Concerning the Spiritual in Art by Wassily Kandinsky, 1914.

This seminal work was written “to free art from its traditional bonds to material reality”. It explains Kandinsky’s own theory of painting and crystallizes the ideas that were influencing other modern artists of the period. This book had a tremendous impact on the development of modern art. It is written in a syntax very much from the 1900’s, so please excuse the fumbles and bumps. I’ve had this book close to me for over a decade and has served as a reminder to keep creating and pushing forward. Many of the examples he speaks of as an artist in the early 1900’s strangely mirrors our time today. I start with Part 1’s first 2 chapters and will be adding a chapter each week. Thanks for your patience & enjoy!
